Fox Feeder   ( but you have to feed several raccoons to feed a fox )

UK's Fox Feeder :

This is strictly a novelty gadget - don't expect a lot of large red foxes to show up.  What will probably happen is that the word will get out and all the neighborhood cats and nocturnal raccoons in your area will empty your feeder faster than you can fill it.

But if you want to make one - buy a 90° elbow , 22.5° , 45° , ≈ 24" pipe , & cap.
As pictured, three inch PVC works well, but probably holds too much food.
I haven't made one with 2" PVC, but that may be a better choice.

The Tube and curved fittings must be the same size, or the holding tube must be smaller than the elbows.  Using a larger tube with a reducer to smaller elbows, does not work.  The dog or cat food will jam at the size reduction point.  The curved-cut at the opening is optional using 3" PVC - make this cut only if you can do so safely.

As pictured, drill a few drain holes at the very bottom of the unit.  If the food doesn't stay dry - it will swell & sour.  Push the 22.5° curve firmly to 90° elbow and drill / use set-screws for this joint and cement the rest.  This allows for cleaning.

To paint it - rub the unit with pvc cleaner or acetone to get the glossy shine off.  PVC doesn't permanently hold paint very well - but dulling the finish helps.  Put the cap on, or tape the top before painting - otherwise the cap won't fit over the paint.

If you have nothing to mount it on - a heavy-curved-type metal type fence post should work.  The picture above is two fence posts holding the deer-corn feeders.  Hold one of the pvc fittings next to a metal fence post to make sure.

Mount high enough so rain will not splash up into the opening.  A raccoon will manage to get dog food out even if the opening is 30" above the ground.

To fill this feeder - you need to put a sponge, rag or something in the opening, or the food will fly out as fast as you can pour it into the vertical holding tube.  Once the holding tube has some food in it - then it will stay there and can easily be pawed out.
