Stop Using Desktop Icons

Enjoy the simplicity/speed of a taskbar menu that has one-click-shortcuts & also could have many folders that contain many more well organized shortcuts & links.

Be unique, with no icons you can neatly display a picture, collage, calendar or whatever.

Plus, the folder that contains all the shortcuts could be located in an area that is normally protected when you do data/picture backups - so the effort you spend copying or creating these shortcuts will be safe in backups you make.

                             How this works:
( Note:
Only in Windows 10, Microsoft disabled this feature in Windows 11 - It's possible with Win 11, but takes a add-on program/mod to have this capability. I did it with a family computer & it works fine. At your risk do a search for 'adding quick launch toolbar to taskbar', then you can enable this task bar function.)

In Win 10, You simply click the » (double-greater sign) & a list of shortcuts & folders appear.

Single click a shortcut to goto/open a picture, program, app, directory, spreadsheet, system function, printer queue, etc.

Or, 'mouse-over' a folder and its contents will appear.

Doing this may entice you to create time saving shortcuts.
T
Plus - the 'main folder' allows sliding the shortcuts & folders up/down to your preference & then they stay put.
                                      - - -
To try a this, follow the 3 steps in the menu. Then you can slowly modified/add-to this when you have time. It's mostly invisible & doesn't interfere with anything. Leave your collection of desktop icons alone till you are happy using this method.

If you share a computer, extra similar 'Task Bar Menus' can be made if other users have different computer interests that need separate shortcut lists.
